Hi, dear..

Between U and Me

Dear lovely in my belly,

I still haven’t named you yet, we just call you Olaf 🙂
Yesterday, mom had a scholarship interview for my PhD in UK.
Mom doesn’t know what to do and what to answer the question. Everything has changed, dear Olaf.

All my ambitions to take higher education were converted piece by piece into educating you more in the future.
I wish I have the best choice for our lives.

and I hope, I can be the best mom for you, Olaf :*

I can count on you because you can count on me :)

If you ever find yourself stuck in the middle of the sea
I’ll sail the world to find you
If you ever find yourself lost in the dark and you can’t see
I’ll be the light to guide you

Find out what we’re made of
When we are called to help our friends in need
You can count on me like 1, 2, 3
I’ll be there
And I know when I need it
I can count on you like 4, 3, 2
You’ll be there
‘Cause that’s what friends are supposed to do

If you’re tossing and you’re turning
And you just can’t fall asleep
I’ll sing a song beside you
And if you ever forget how much you really mean to me
Every day I will remind you

You’ll always have my shoulder when you cry
I’ll never let go, never say goodbye
You know…

You can count on me ’cause I can count on you

Understanding song lyrics with grammar taking into account

I chose Teenage Dream mainly by Boyce Avenue than Katy Perry’s because of its complexity :p

I think you’re pretty without any make-up on
I think you’re funny when you tell the punch line wrong
I knew you got me when you let your walls come down.. down..

Three lines above are presented in Present Tense which is means that condition are happen every day or commonly happened. In brief, the boy admires the girl with every single her incompleteness as a woman who are make-up and bad jokes.

Before you met me I was alright but things were kind a heavy
You brought me to life
Now every February you’ll be my Valentine.. Valentine..

Now, they present the lyrics in Past Tense with two sequential events. The first event is a heavy life for the boy and the following event is the girl met him. Both of them are in the past form which is means that those events happened a long time ago. But, the last lyrics back into the Simple Present Tense with ‘every’ as a marker. From now on, the girl with company him in every single day, including valentine day 🙂 I feel that is so sweet. Apart from, whether I believe in Valentine days or not but this is so direct romanticism.

Let’s just talk all through the night
There’s no need to rush
We can dance until we die
You and I will be young forever

In the Katy Perry’s lyrics those two first lines are written “Let’s go all the way tonight, No regrets, just love” and the rest are just same. I don’t know why Boyce Avenue changed these two perfect lines but I feel that Boyce Avenue just made them better. Opened by Present Tense with routine activities they have planned (talking all night) and share dancing together, it is ended by Future Tense that reflects their hopes (young forever).

You make me feel like I’m living a teenage dream
The way you turn me on I can’t sleep
Let’s run away and don’t ever look back
Don’t ever look back

My heart stops when you look at me
Just one touch, now baby, I believe this is real
So take a chance and don’t ever look back
Don’t ever look back

This is the first Present Continuous Tense in this song, but it just a metaphor for being too happy. The girl always makes the boy feels happy and continuously happy all the time. The boy doesn’t want to see his sorrowful past time, all of his wants are just live today and future with the girl.

When you’re around me life is like a movie scene
I wasn’t happy until you became my queen
I finally found you, my missing puzzle piece
I’m complete

This is another metaphor describing the girl’s arrival to the boy’s life, and another sequence of Past Tense. The first past event is the boy was not happy and the following past event is she became his queen. The following effect can be identified by Present event which is the boy’s feeling is completed by the girl.

Well, you always have choices, whether you learn grammar from an old boring grammar book or from an enjoying song or movie you can watch several times 😀

Goodbye and Welcome..

I suddenly remember about ‘Welcome’ note in our mats =))

No, it is nothing about welcoming mats or some stuffs like that 😀 this is about our two different native English teachers. I definitely love both of them even though they are totally different to each other.

The first one, she is really pretty and well behave, everybody in my class admires her intelligence and her way to educate us, just treat us like adults who knows which one to do and which one to avoid. She gave us a broad knowledge that related to cultural understanding and many things we should know about this world. In a short way, she is totally inspiring down-to-earth woman 🙂 But, she had to go and left us to a better place 🙂

She has been replaced by a new tutor. I can say that she is very direct and outspoken person, which is really suit with my character. Lots of my classmates feel intimidated by her, but I really enjoy it 🙂 she sticks to the plan and pushes us to be a hard worker to achieve the score. She even gave us sooo many home works to read, sing and watch English subtitle movies. I strongly love it. It is not that I really like to be pushed but it is the only way for me to boost my energy.

Don’t you think that these two teachers are completing each other? The one that inspires you, gave a good teacher model and the other one is incredibly strong to kick you out when you digressed from your goal 🙂 I am really happy to have them both in my story line of life 🙂

My Future Career will be a …

Yesterday I got a IELTS speaking question about what I want to be in my future career. Besides being a mom, I really want to be a skilled gardener someday, funny isn’t it?

Yeah because I found that people in this earth are no longer concern about the place where we have lived until today and may be in the future for our descendants later. Most of them only concern about technology, society or even money, may be they already forget that they can’t do all of that if this earth is dying.

That’s why I want to be a gardener who happily plants ever after with my skilled technique to keep them alive and fertilize. I always feel happy when I get new plants in my small garden. Actually, I was inspired by my mother in law, she is a truly farmer. She has a vast farming land in her town, near her house in Lamongan. My last holiday was filled with playing in her farm, ploughs the soil, seeding and gives them fertilizer. Nothing can make me happy than that moments. I even said to my husband that I want to be a farmer someday! 😀

The most interesting part is when you see a new little bud that is ready to grow up, blowing good wishes to them to survive whatever they will face, watering them and pruning the rotten leaves or branches and they bloom beautifully. They are just live in peace and give big and unseen contribution to another life (human/animal) by its fruits and oxygen they release.

I don’t know where I got this gene, may be one of my ancestors was a farmer, because it just like teaching, comes from my heart without thinking the benefits or drawbacks I will receive later. I never think how will my computer science knowledge be used in farming or how good the profits I will get.

Now, I am adding to have a vast garden besides having a library someday 🙂

The DIKTI English Training Program: How to apply?

As an answer to several friends who asked me how to get this program, I will happily share my story to you all 🙂

To begin with, I didn’t know at all about this English Training Program held by DIKTI. I only know that two or three my colleagues went to this program but I didn’t ask them how.

Fortunately, my lovely colleague Mrs. Feby asked me to join with her to apply this program. She said that only the one who has NIDN will be selected by this program but I haven’t that one yet.

You can see the requirements clearly on this page. If you don’t have any NIDN yet like me, just try it. Even if you do not enclose any English Certificate like me, again, just try it. It is worth to try.

After sending an email consists of your Name, Institution Letter that certifies that you are one of their lecturers issued by your Head of Department or Dean and your English score, please wait the notification about date, place and time to attend the selection program like this page.

On that day, called by ‘Talent Scouting’ program, you will be provided an accommodation and meals for two days. Please prepare yourself to take an IELTS test at the beginning. If you get above 5.5 then you may follow this English Training Program for 6 months. The announcement about English Training can be seen on this page.

P.S. it is very hard to contact with the organizer thus you have to stalk the news by yourself in DIKTI website 🙂

Good Luck!

Before joining DIKTI IELTS program, I barely know this term. Well, Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary said it is

a vowel sound in which the tongue changes position to produce the sound of two vowels

In brief, this is how the sounds must be produced through your tongue and how to differentiate it with another similar sounds.

Anyway, this afternoon class played us a IELTS tutor video that provided us many tips and tricks to beat the IELTS. The speaker said one valuable tips about awareness to the spelling questions.

Which one is 8 and which one is H since they have similar sounds till today. For me, the beginner English learner, it is hard to distinguish those two letters. But, there is something bother me much. Not essential but just triggered me to imagine how the life before humankind found the alphabetical letters.

Everybody must know about W which is always spelled by “double-yu”, how to distinguish ‘W’ with ‘UU’ then?

Another bugging unnecessary question is, why ‘W’ is pronounced as ‘double-yu’? As its appearance more likely to ‘double-vi’ (VV) than ‘double-yu’ (UU).

Well, just quoting Mandy Moore song, “Someday I will know” 🙂

What is the Character Building?

Recently, I’ve got so many lesson about English of course, moreover it is life matters. I frequently hear a wisdom word that poor person is a human who work because of  money, but this is the first time I face a problem with mark and led me to similar wisdom “Stupid person is a human who study because of mark”.

I confess that I was a score-oriented student when I was an undergraduate pupil. I have been spent my time to studied, worked on a paper and did my homework neatly because I want to get a high mark. Surprisingly, I did it! It works! But, my knowledge had easily flown away from my memory by the time the end of semester.

This time, I get a chance to be a student once more, of course it is my precious moment as become a student is time to gain as much as knowledge that I want to learn. Well, this time I will be a score-oriented student again, because I have to take a good mark in an IELTS. What did I find here? many mistakes and inappropriate mark calculation happen here, even for counting an average value, they can not successfully do it.

I was unhappy to see this condition for sure, in addition the more I think about it, the more stupid I am. It is obvious that they can do count very well as they passed their graduate degree whatever their subject is. Furthermore, I was told that they did it on purpose, they miscount it because of their hidden agenda. They called it as a character building 🙂

This is an interesting term, as far as I have got, it is not character that they will build, in fact they just showed their close-minded because they did it on the wrong people. It is not the era for punishing people to rocket their motivation, well if they back to hundreds year ago, they may be true. Nowadays, I definitely say that they are just doing a character degradation, as two of my classmates were really disappointed of their score furthermore they underestimate their own capability and one of them swore not to take ‘fake‘ regular test anymore. Finally, they succeed to do something!

I missed my students in my University where my heart belong to, I never did these to them. I always keep their good motivation by giving them a ‘real‘ mark, without any decrease or increase that made by me for certain reason, because I just feel stupid as an educated person if I do that. Besides those reasons I’ve mentioned before, the most important motive is my trust towards their willingness to enroll my course is because they need it.

However, I was enriched by many lesson here and I still feel grateful for being here. I have many other good role models and new family where I can learn many beneficial life matters from, that is what I call as “The Truly Character Building” 🙂 Facing new people, new problem, different understanding from different culture.

As green as grass..

First time I looked at this place, only one word that spinning round my head “green“. As a girl who has been living in a crowd for 24 years, I wondered there is a place that really green like this village.

Yap! this is the village of my husband’s families, they all are living here indefinitely. The first morning I stayed here, I asked to my husband to take a walk with me to the paddy farm, I just want to know how it feels be inside of it and walk on bund. All that fantasies only watched in movie or pictures of a calendar, how pity I am..

This is not a dream anymore, I’ve been there once and I want to go there more frequent. Just look these pretty pictures below, and you will happily dream ever after 🙂
